How much you know about Delhi ?

Delhi is situated in the bank of river Yamuna. The Yamuna witness to the glorious and tumultuous 5,000 year old history of Delhi.

Delhi was created as "Indraprastha" by the Pandavas and the transformation of this barren gift of the Kauravas as "Khandavprastha" into an idyllic heaven.

The first reference to the place-name Delhi, seems to have been made in the 1st century BC, when Raja Dhilu built a city and named it after himself.

Delhi has been destroyed and recreated 7 times and It is also known as Seven cities. Everytime after the destruction, new city were formed by its ruler as per their accord. They were named as Lal Kot, Siri, Tuglakabad, Jahapanah, Firozabad, Din-Panah, Shahjahanbad.

A history which encompasses all the various kings and emperors who fixed their royal citadels here... Indraprastha, Lal Kot, Quila Rai Pithora, Siri, Jahanpanah, Tughlakabad, Ferozabad, Dinpanah, Delhi Sher Shahi or then Shahjahanabad, but, combined and integrated into one, these 'new cities' have always been called Delhi

British founded New Delhi  in 1911 and shifted their capital to Delhi.

In 1950, Delhi was made the capital of Independent India and in 1992 it was declared a state.

Today Delhi is divided in 5 zones. Delhi Zones includes East Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, North Delhi and Central Delhi.
