How much you know about the historical facts of Delhi ?

-Delhi is situated in the bank of river Yamuna. The Yamuna witnessed to the glorious and tumultuous 5,000 year old history of Delhi.

-Delhi was created as "Indraprastha" by the Pandavas when they transformed of this barren gift of the Kauravas as "Khandavprastha" into an idyllic heaven.

-The first reference to the place-name Delhi, seems to have been made in the 1st century BC, when Raja Dhilu built a city and named it after himself. 

-Delhi has been destroyed and recreated 7 times and It is also known as Seven cities. Everytime after the destruction, new city were formed by its ruler as per their accord. They were named as Lal Kot, Siri, Tuglakabad, Jahapanah, Firozabad, Din-Panah, Shahjahanbad. A history which encompasses all the various kings and emperors who fixed their royal citadels here...

-Indraprastha, Lal Kot, Quila Rai Pithora, Siri, Jahanpanah, Tughlakabad, Ferozabad, Dinpanah, Delhi Sher Shahi or then Shahjahanabad, but, combined and integrated into one, these 'new cities' have always been called Delhi.

-British founded New Delhi in 1911 and shifted their capital to Delhi. 

-In 1950, Delhi was made the capital of Independent India and in 1992 it was declared a state.


-Today Delhi is divided in 11 Districts.

How much you know about Uttarakhand ?

-In the Vedas, this region called – Manaskhand ( Kumaun) and Kedarkhand ( Garhwal).
-Mahabharta was written by Ved vyas in Uttarakhand.
-In 8th Century, Adi Shankaracharya resorted the Badrinath and Kedarnath shrines.
-Katyuri dynasty ruled in kumaun region from 7th to 12th century and 13th -18th century by chand dynasty.
-Garhwal was ruled by Parmar / Panwar Rajas.
-Gorkha empire invaded the Kumaun region in 1791 and Garhwal region in 1803.
-After the anglo – Nepalese war in 1816, both the region became the part of British India after signing the treaty of Sugauli.
-Present day Uttarakhand comprised of two division – Kumaun and Garhwal.  Both the region has their separate history till British rule.
-On 24th Sep, 1998 – UP Government passed the Uttar Pradesh Reorganization bill.
-On 9th Nov, 2000 – Uttarakhand became the 27th State of India.
-Uttarakhand has a geographical area of 53483 Sq Km.
-Uttarakhand is divided into two Divisions and having 13 districts , 82 Tehsils ,95 Developments blocks and 7555 Gram panchayats.
-There are 7 districts in Garhwal Region and 6 Districts in Kumuan region.   

-Uttarakhand has a literacy rate of 79.63%.

How much you know about 15th August,1947 – India’s Independence Day ?

-In Feb,1947, Prime minister of Britain – Mr. Clement Attlee declared that Britain will grant full self governance to India by June,1948.

-The Viceroy , Lord Mountbatten was authorised to transfer the power to Indians.

-The Viceroy choose 15th August, 1947 as the date to transfer the power keeping the date as the mark of second anniversary of Japan’s surrender in world war-II.

-On 3rd June,1947- British Government announced that it has accepted the idea of partitioning British India into two states. This act is known as Indian Independence Act 1947.  The act got its royal assent on 18th July,1947.

-The constituent assembly of India met on 14th Aug,1947 at 11 PM at Constitution Hall at Delhi and Pt. J.L.Nehru gave their famous speech , “ Tryst with Destiny”

-On 15th Aug,1947 – A Full day programme was organized in Delhi. Starts from 8:30 AM by Swearing in ceremony of Governor General and ministers of government House and ended with the dinner at Government House.

- When people are celebrating Independence Day on 15th August, Mahtama Gandhi was not in Delhi.  He was at Calcutta and encouraging peace of Hindu and Muslim with his 24 Hours fast.

-In 1929 at Lahore Session of Indian National Congress , 26th January was declared as Independence Day which was later on adopted as Republic day as Viceroy choose the date 15th Aug for transfer of Power.

-On 15th August,1947- Prime minister – Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru raised the Indian Flag at Red Fort in Delhi and given a speech.  This tradition is still continues on this day.

-The Times of India – Newspaper gave the titled on its front page as –“ Birth Of India’s Freedom” on its 15th Aug,1947 Edition.

How much you know about Mr. Sundar Pichai – New CEO of Google ?

  1. - Sundar Pichai , original name is  Pichai Sundarajan.
  2. - His birthplace is Chennai, Tamilnadu- India.
  3. - His father was an electrical engineer and managed his own company for electrical components and his mother was stenographer.
  4. - He was the captain of his school cricket team and won many competitions.
  5. - While Growing, Pichai’s family did not have a TV and a car.
  6. - Sundar Pichai did his Engineering in “Metallurgical Engineering” from IIT, Kharagpur.
  7. - His father, Mr. Raghunath Pichai applied loan to a bank to send his son to US  , but it was denied then he withdrew the money from his family’s savings.  It was more than his annual salary. 
  8. - He did his MS in material science from Standford University and MBA from Wharton School , Pennsylynia.
  9. - Before Joining Google, He worked with Applied Materials and Mckinsey & Company.
  10. - He joined Google in 2004 and he was the man behind the Google Chrome & Chrome OS.
  11. - He was also the man behind most famous mobile operating system – Android.
  12. - He is married to Anjali.
  13. - He is 43 years old.
  14. - He is a proud father of two children.

How much you know about Indian Constitution – Some unknown Facts ?

1-   It is the longest written constitution having 448 Articles , 12 Schedules and 94 amendments.
2-   The committee for drafting the constitution was established on 27th Aug, 1947 and Dr. B.R.Ambedkar was appointed the chairman of the drafting committee and committee having six members as Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, K M Munshi, A.K.Iyer, N.Gopalswami Ayengar, B.L.Mitter, Md. Saadullah and D P Khaitan and advisor was Sir B.N.Rau.
3-   The drafting committee had handwritten and calligraphed the Indian constitution in Hindi as well as English. The original copies are kept at library of Indian Parliament. Each page beautified and decorated by Shantiniketan artists like Beohar Rammanohar Sinha and Nandalal Bose.
4-   On 24th Of January, 1950 – 284 members of constituent assembly signed the document and it was raining outside.  The raining was treated as Good Omen.
5-   The total time taken to prepare the draft to approval of Indian constitution was 2 years, 11 Months and 18 days.
6-   On 26th Jan,1950 – The national emblem accepted by the Indian Government.
Many principles were borrowed from other constitutions i.e. Parliamentary structure from Britain , Separation of powers from USA, Federal Government from CANADA etc.
